Out of all the stories I could have told, here’s why I told Rebel Shade’s story.

Since I was a lad I loved learning about history, especially American History, and more specifically, U.S. Civil War History. I recall as a boy my grandfather, Nathan Wilson Combs, told me stories about his father, Shadrach, and many of the exploits that had been told to him about my great grandfather, Rebel Shade Combs. My father, as well as several of my aunts and uncles also regaled me with stories of their grandfather, my great grandfather. I always knew that I needed to preserve the legacy of not only Rebel Shade, but the memories of his extended family who lived in “Bloody Breathitt”. My writing was truly a labor of love and I am so pleased that my novel is being enjoyed by so many people now.
