Readers of my novel. “A Time for Every Season”, can also follow me on my new dedicated Facebook Author Page where we are discussing whether Rebel Shade Combs and his family had remained neutral and not sided with either the North or the South.
Readers of my novel will learn that my great grandfather, Rebel Shade Combs, and his two brothers resisted joining both the Union and Confederate armies. They finally mustered into Caudill’s Confederate Army in Whitesburg, Kentucky in October 1862, only after the Union Army invaded Kentucky earlier that year. Most of the families from Breathitt and Perry Counties enlisted in the Confederate Army, so did the three Combs’ brothers have any other choice?
